Microsoft spurs public sector
Microsoft will highlight its services and solutions at the Middle East Government Technology Exhibition and Conference (Govtec), which takes place in Bahrain from February 13 to 15.
Govtec runs alongside the Middle East Financial Technology Exhibition and Conference 2006.
Govtec is the Middle East’s only dedicated technology event for government and public sector organizations.
As part of Microsoft’s participation in Govtec, Yasser Zeineldine, director, EPG and public sector, Microsoft Gulf, will give a keynote presentation on how Microsoft’s services and solutions can help public sector organisations to meet their goals for e-government.
According to International Data Corporation, the public sector will represent the region’s second largest industry vertical after the finance sector in terms of overall IT investments over the next five years.
It is currently estimated that public sector spending on IT will range between $800-$900 million this year.
“Govtec provides an important communication and discussion forum for Microsoft and the public sector, and we are very pleased to be able to participate,” said Microsoft Gulf general manager Charbel Fakhoury.
“Microsoft has strong relationships with governments around the region, and we look forward to sharing our expertise, and the solutions we have developed with our partners for government, with attendees at Govtec.”
In Bahrain, Microsoft has have just celebrated the second anniversary of the signing of our Government Agreement with Bahrain, which support the Kingdom’s e-government initiative.
The Bahrain Government is also part of the Microsoft Government Security Program.
Microsoft also sponsored a two-day forum in January that discussed e-voting, in co-operation with the Bahrain Information Technology Society (BITS), the UN Information & Technology for Development in the Arab Region division and the Bahrain Election and Referendum Directorate.
“The public sector in the Gulf is one of the most advanced in the world in terms of its use of information technology to enhance and extend services to citizens,” Fakhoury said.
“Governments across the Middle East are placing stronger emphasis on good governance, transparency, and reduction of bureaucracy and they are looking to e-government projects to help them achieve these goals.
“Microsoft solutions are already proven in many government projects, and we welcome this opportunity to demonstrate the power of Microsoft technology to the participants at Govtec,” said Fakhoury.
