Inauguration of Bab Al Bahrain electronic website
Shaikh Mohammed delivered a speech on the occasion saying that the inauguration came within the framework of the overall royal reforms of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, followed by the popular endorsement of the National referendum and constitution, reinforcement of democracy, supremacy of law and development of national economy and government performance. The Deputy Premier said the project will be implemented in four phases over the coming three years to be finally crowned by the launch of government services via the Internet, telephone and Informatics Bureaus and the creation of an interlink between all government ministries and bodies.
Shaikh Mohammed called on the press to take part in the media campaign aimed at introducing the project to the people and highlighting its benefits. he thanked the Committee for the project and Batelco and The central Informatics Organization for their assistance as well Price Waterhouse and others for taking part in the execution of what he tipped a vital project for the citizens and residents.
For his part, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and President of the Central Informatics Organisation, Shaikh Ahmed bin Attiyat Allah Al Khalifa, said the e- government gate " Bab Al Bahrain" is the byproduct of long years of hard work and non-stop planning to prepare the needed infrastructure that embraces e- government in its comprehensive defenition. He explained that the Bahraini e-government is a comprehensive framework and an integral system that enables government administrations to provide their services electronically, adding that the website is also equipped with a central payment system under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance.
He added that an information office was created to respond to citizens' inquiries on electronic services, noting that a number of essential governmental services have been provided for citizens while work is well under way to provide more services soon such as electricity and water bill payment. For his part, Batelco Board Chairman, Hassan Juma'a, delivered a speech, expressing appreciation for the technical structure put at the disposal of citizens and expatriates, adding that Batelco has always provided the government with data network that link ministries and government bodies together via a top-quality and high- speed system, the first of its kind in the Middle East.
Following the opening ceremony, Shaikh Ahmed bin Attiyat Allah held a press conference during which he spotlighted the many benefits that citizens will draw from the electronic gate, noting that 50% of government services will be accessed electronically which was an incentive to authorities to speed up work at the e- government. He said that a large scale awareness- raising campaign will be launched to acquaint citizens with the meaning and uses of the new e- services to ensure they get the most benefit of them.
