The announcement of the National e-Governance Action Plan by the Government of India has given a fillip to the initiatives in this area all over the country. To meet the pressing demands of this crucial sector, we need to put in place several institutions, frameworks and mechanisms that are aimed at building the capacities within Governments and outside. One such possibility is through making the knowledge on e- Government widely available to those who need it. The concept of creating and managing a Knowledge Portal on e-Government derives from this pressing requirement. The eGovWorld Portal has been conceived of in this context. The eGovWorld portal is lead by the Department of Information Technology, Government of India and supported by UNDP through ICTD project. NISG is providing the conceptual and administrative support for the project. The portal aims to be the first site of reference on e-Government globally by providing a single window interface for sharing ideas, resources and opportunities. eGovWorld is a service available on the Internet in order to improve the communication between citizens and businesses on the one hand, and the e-Government institutions on the other hand. |
