Kuwait eyes Singapore help to establish e-govt; Info-Connect 2006 opens

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait will be tying up with Singapore to establish e-governance in Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, Kuwait’s Minister of Communi-cations and Health told the media Monday on the sidelines of Info-Connect 2006 exhibition (Feb 6 to 12) at Kuwait International Fair Grounds in Mishref. The minister inaugurated the exhibition, which, he said, “is bigger than the exhibition held last year, with more participants, including Chinese and Korean products.” He expressed surprise at the innovation in communication technologies by companies that participated in the fifth annual information and communication exhibition.

“The institutions in Kuwait are upgrading their technological capabilities and our nation will soon be on par with some of the technologically advanced countries.” Chairman and Managing Director of Global Connect, the exhibition organizer, said the exhibition will provide decision-makers, consultants, specialists and those interested in communication technology the opportunity to experience and evaluate the latest developments in IT and communication technologies. “It will further allow direct exchange of information among the specialists, who can attend practical presentations in the areas of networking systems, databases, management and financial applications, information and communication security systems, as well as Internet applications in a professional environment.”

Forty-one companies took part in the exhibition, displaying a variety of products. A representative of 3D Graphic International said the company is a leading provider of multimedia system solutions in the Middle East. The company’s products included video and audio editing systems, 2D and 3D graphics workstations, video server, broadcasts and professional camera accessories, and all types of video converters. Ajwan Trading Company showed specialization in bank cards, credit cards, debit cards, time attendance systems with access control, video surveillance systems, smart card applications, car parking solutions and wireless messaging systems among others.

Al Saffar Computer Services exhibited some of the latest Acer Aspire computers, travel mate Note books, Acer Tablet PC TM C 102TCi apart from a full range of Epson inkjet printers and digital cameras. Eureka Electronics showcased the latest products in computer, communication and digital imaging technologies. The company claimed to have introduced some very competitive price offers to the consumers on a wide range of personal computers, notebooks, handhelds, LCD monitors, digital cameras, mobile phones, PC peripherals and accessories. Eureka will also be offering surprises during the exhibition with attractive credit programs, having terms such as: payment after 5 months, no guarantor, no transfer of salary, monthly installment starting from KD 10, credit amount of KD 100 and so forth.

Shanghai Telecommuni-cation Engineering Compa-ny’s scope of business included installation, commissioning and testing of telephone exchanges, optical and microwave transmission, towers and poles, broad band and data services, intelligent building and system integration. The company is also involved in consultancy services. Al Bayan Trading and Contracting Company, Kuwait Finance House, Al Watan newspaper, Arabian Business Machines, Cameo Computer Company, Hoshanco, Infocenter, Kuwait British Factory, Limra Computer Center. Moreover UK Pitman Training Institute, Pioneers Computers, Qualitynet, Smart Solutions, Yuet Meng Trading Company and Zak Solutions were some of the other participating companies.
